Instead we believe that everyday and every project is an opportunity to be better than we have been before, striving to always excel in our craft. This motto is the driving force behind our efforts to adapt, create and grow as our community needs change, as our industry develops.

That starts with respect for the client and striving to understand all their requirements. Then we offer creativity and support to help them dream bigger. A good event happens long before the guests arrive, with care for the specifics and care for our clients, we strive to exceed expectations and then some.

To us it is all about the vision, it’s the starting point for where memories are made, and where excitement ignites. Our client’s vision is the basis for great things, and we aim to take that vision to a place where aspirations are achievable and delighted in.

A company is only as good as it’s people. When you take a group of individually talented people and pair them together, the things they can accomplish are vast.  Those team achievements are a crucial part of the Gaslight Events Company. Leadership

With enthusiasm, expertise and over three decades of experience at the leadership level, the Gaslight Events Company team has a success record that is unparalleled in Waterloo Region.

Comprised of a highly skilled management team, the Gaslight Events Company is led by Carolina Soares and Kyle Priestley. As owners of The Event Firm, they have fine-tuned and developed a well respected and highly sought-after event planning service. Most recently The Event Firm was the recipient of Small Business of the Year at the Greater Kitchener-Waterloo Business Excellence Awards.  They are joined by Corporate Culinary Director Andrew Ellerby, who has worked closely with celebrity chef Mark McEwan as the Culinary Director of the McEwan Group and Director of Business Development Christina Marshall, who has a long history of accomplishment in the media, public relations and account management for a variety of industries.

As a passionate team, the sky is the limit when it comes to seamlessly running all aspects of any style event, concert or wedding. From ticketing platforms, floor planning, menu creation and coordination, back end production timelines and talent booking/management, the Gaslight Event Company team will achieve your goals and have a great time doing it!

Carolina Soares

Carolina is an internationally certified wedding planner and event designer through The Association of Bridal Consultants and has studied wedding design and client management under Sasha Souza (celebrity planner). She studied business and social media management under Hilary Rushford, attained a makeup certification from Edith Serei School in Montreal and has her Masters of Music and Bachelor of Music, both in Vocal Performance from McGill University.

She has been planning and designing weddings and events for over 10 years

and strives to always bring a client’s vision to life. Carolina is extremely detail oriented and excels in client retention. She is an exceptional multi-tasker and quick thinker and thrives under high pressure at events.

Carolina has extensive knowledge of the hospitality industry and became an owner and incorporated The Event Firm Inc. She has been heading their Wedding and Corporate planning team ever since. With her partner, Kyle Priestley, they have grown The Event Firm Inc. from an average of 40 event bookings per year to more than 140 event bookings per year.

She has planned, designed and lead events for HIP Developments, Warner Bros, Sunlife, Manulife, CIGI, The KW Chamber of Commerce, Melloul Blamey, Fischer Canada, Activa, TMMC (Toyota), Audi and United Way, amongst others.

With her highly respected background in event management, Carolina is co-leading the team at the Gaslight Events Company with enthusiasm, excitement and a keen foresight for great things to come.

Kyle Priestley

A true entrepreneur at heart, Kyle has been creating companies and designing events his whole life. He specializes in lighting design, special development for event spaces, event production and music management.

With a keen ear and eye for what’s new and trending, Kyle is a go to for unique events and designs. He has held events at unique spaces such as warehouses, markets, art galleries, abandoned buildings, barns and cornfields, amongst others.

Kyle Priestley received the TD Canada Trust Scholarship for Community Leadership in 1996 and graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts specializing in sculpture and painting from the University of Waterloo.

Skilled in Photoshop, Kyle is a key designer for The Event Firm Inc., specializing in corporate event management, corporate retention and musical event and talent programming. He is also versed in event lighting design and event production.

In 2016, Kyle joined the Bell Media team temporarily for the launch of Virgin Radio, while developing their marketing and promotions team for Virgin Radio, KFun and CTV.

Prior to The Event Firm Inc., Kyle owned Planet Goodtime (1991-2009), an award winning DJ company. He expanded the company with his partner, Carolina Soares to include full service events and launched The Event Firm Inc. in 2010.

With big ideas and strong connections, Kyle is helping to guide the Gaslight Events Company team with passion, gusto and strategic vision.

Christina Marshall

With over 15 years-experience working in the media both behind the scenes and in front of the camera, Christina Marshall’s has many ideas just bursting at the seams. Having worked for CTV, CBC, NTV News and the Sixth Sense Newspaper in Germany, she has developed a knack for taking an idea from conception to creation with enthusiasm and ease. Christina is detail oriented and has a strong ability to unite connections from individual people to community groups.

With creativity, passion and excitement as a basis, her path has expanded beyond the media to one where her efforts are truly customer centric in sales and marketing. As an account executive for Virgin Radio, KFUN and CTV, she was tasked with generating unique media campaigns as well as helping to promote various local events.

She has also worked as an Account Manager for Information Network Systems, as a Marketing lead and PR representative for iHeart Beer Festivals and as a Multi-Media Producer for BNR Media Group.

Using the very skills learned throughout her varied career, Marshall is now excitedly taking on the role of Director of Business Development for the Gaslight Events Company and The Event Firm Inc.

Christina’s hope is to share her passion people and for the event industry by finding creative solutions for many across South Western Ontario.

Andrew Ellerby

Andrew Ellerby studied food preparation at George Brown College in Toronto. After a very successful restaurant career in the GTA, Ellerby moved to Nova Scotia where he worked at The Upper Deck Restaurant in one of the historic properties of Halifax as the Executive Sous Chef.

In 2002, Chef Ellerby began working under Mark McEwan and Executive Chef Brooke McDougal as the Executive Sous Chef at Bymark. In 2007, McEwan appointed Andrew the Executive Chef at One restaurant – named top 101 best hotel restaurants in the world by Daily Meal.

In early 2009, Chef McEwan and Andrew began working together on the launch of McEwan, a 23,000 square foot gourmet food store in the Shops at Don Mills.

In 2010, Andrew launched Fabbrica. He was also a key player in the formation of recipes for both “Great Food at Home” and “Fabbrica”, Mark McEwan’s best-selling cookbooks. He also consulted for restaurants, Fetta and Nobel, and a ‘grab and go’ program that opened in 2013 at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport.

In 2015 Andrew launched Diwan, a middle eastern style restaurant located in the Aga Kahn museum and a second McEwans location in the TD towers in downtown Toronto.

Andrew now travels throughout Canada and the world, from Fall Flavors in PEI to the Barbados Food Wine and Rum Festival to cooking demonstrations in Asia.

Andrew is eager to take on his next culinary challenge as Corporate Director of Culinary for the Gaslight Events Company, and promises to plate up a feast for the palate.
